Energy Bill Discount Scheme (EBDS)
The existing government Energy Bill Relief Scheme (EBRS) is due to expire on the 31st March 2023.
On the 9th January 2023, the government announced the support that will be given from the 1st April, see link below.

The key points of the scheme are as follows:
• Available to all UK Businesses, charities and public sector organisations who placed contracts after 1/12/2021. This applies to all contract types, fixed, flexible and deemed.
• The scheme will run for a period of 12 months from the 1st April 2023 until the 31st March 2024 and will be known as the EBDS – Energy Bill Discount Scheme
• Bills will be reduced by a discount per unit of power (kWh). This will be calculated on the difference between the contracted wholesale price minus the below maximum discount, where the secured wholesale energy price is higher than thresholds stated below.
• The wholesale price must be higher than the threshold price in order for the discount to apply.
Electricity – maximum discount £19.61 / MWh (1.961 p/kWh) with a threshold of £302 / MWh (30.2 p/kWh)
Gas – maximum discount £6.97 / MWh (0.697 p/kWh) with a threshold of £107 / MWh (10.7 p/kWh)
• The above rates apply to energy only costs (wholesale costs).
• All non-energy costs will still apply.
• The discounts if applicable will be applied automatically and no action needs to be taken by the customer as per the current EBRS scheme.
• For more energy intensive businesses i.e. steelworks, manufacturing etc the following maximum discounts and thresholds will apply:
Electricity – maximum discount £89 / MWh (8.9 p/kWh) with a threshold of £185 per MWh (18.5 p/kWh)
Gas – maximum discount £40 / MWh (4.0 p/kWh) with a threshold of £99 / MWh (9.9 p/kWh)
• Energy Intensive Industries will have to apply for the higher level of support.
• The below link details which businesses are classed as energy intensive.
